Texas County Medical Reserve Corps
The Texas County Medical Reserve Corps was established in December 2006 as a result of a need identified by the Texas County Community Health Awareness Team. Texas County and surrounding areas had no data base for volunteers that could be called upon in the event of a disaster or public health event. In conjunction with the Citizens Corps Council, the Texas County Medical Reserve Corps was established to fulfill that need.
Mission Statement: The Texas County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is made up of local volunteers who organize, prepare and enhance the volunteer capacity of local health professionals during emergencies. It also works to strengthen local health departments’ capabilities by providing education during non-emergencies.
The purposes of the local MRC are to:
- Draw health professionals into the volunteer service.
- Create a framework to match volunteers’ skills with their communities’ needs.
- Train volunteer healthcare professionals to assist Texas County and surrounding areas during disasters and/or health emergencies.
- Provide a reserve capacity at the local level to respond to natural and manmade disasters and public health emergencies.
- To assist with the deployment of the Strategic National Stockpile Program should it ever be needed.
